Football Season Starts, Fever Season Ends.

leave a comment »

Tonight the 2014 NFL football season officially starts up. Kicking off with a game in Seattle against the Seattle Seahawks and the Green Bay Packers.

Last night the Indiana Fever played against the Chicago Sky in game 3 of the Eastern Finals, where the winner would go to the WNBA Finals and the other would go home. Unfortunatley the Fever fell short and lost 75-62. Despite the loss Head Coach Lin Dunn praised her team and stated that she was proud of them.

Indianapolis Colts’ owner Jim Irsay has been finned $500,000 and suspended six games for violating the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy by driving while being intoxicated. Irsay will be on probation and have his license taken away for a year. He will be able to attend on October 9th’s game against the Houstan Texans.

On the bright side, the Colts play against the Denver Broncos in Denver Sunday night for the first Sunday Night Football game of the season!

Wild Card Playoffs Results

leave a comment »

As the wild card games finish only four teams have survived at least another week in the playoffs. These teams are the Baltimore Ravens and the Houston Texans for the AFC. And the Green Bay Packers and the Seattle Seahawks for the NFC.

The weekend started off with the Houston Texans vs. the Cincinnati Bengals. It took awhile for both of these teams to get something going as both went 0-3 on their first possesion, and the majority of the points came from field goals, and both teams got only one TD. The Texans hung on and won 19-13. The Texans will now go onto play the New England Patriots on Sunday @ 4:30.

The next game was the Green Bay Packers vs. the Minnesota Vikings. These two teams met last week and the Vikings won with a field goal. But this week would be different as their starting QB Christian Ponder was not able to play due to an elbow injury. The Packers won 24-10 and the Vikings struggled the entire game. I think the game would have gone much differently is the Vikings had their regular QB, but the Packers win and will go onto play against the San Fransisco 49ers on Saturday @ 8:00.

The games continued on Sunday with the Indianapolis Colts against the Baltimore Ravens. This was a big game for both teams as it could’ve potentially been the last game for Line Backers Ray Lewis, as he is going to retire at the end of the season. And a big game for the Colts as it would have been Andrew Luck’s first playoffs game, ever. All of the Colts’ points came from field goals and the Colts lost 24-9. The Ravens will now go onto play against the Denver Broncos and Peyton Manning Saturday @ 4:30.

The wild card games concluded with the Seattle Seahawks at the Washington Redskins. The Redskins started off strong with 2 TDs in the first quarter, but did not score for the rest of the game. The Seahawks didn’t take the lead until the fourth quarter were they wrapped up the game 24-14. The Seahawks will now play against the Atlanta Falcons Sunday @ 1:00 pm.

Next week four more teams will be ellimated from the playoffs and four other teams will move on to at least one more week in the playoffs and another chance at getting closer to the Super Bowl.

Championship week

leave a comment »

This week was the Championship games for both the NFC and AFC.

The games This week the Pittsburgh Steelers played against the New York Jets. The result: the Steelers won 24-19.

Next the Green Bay Packers against the Chicago Bears: This rivalry has history. However, this time the Packers take the win over the Bears 21-14. This actually was a very interesting game. The Bears had put in their third string QB Caleb Hanie. And managed to catch the Bears up some, but not enough to win the NFC title.

Stats This will be the Steelers 7th time in the Superbowl.

Therefore, the NFC champions are Green Bay Packers and the NFC champions are the Pittsburgh Steelers.

And so in 3 weeks these two teams will meet in Dallas, Texas for Superbowl XLV.

Divisional playoff results

leave a comment »

This week was a week of surprises, as the two leaders of both divisions have been eliminated from the playoffs.

The games This week the Baltimore Ravens played against the Pittsburgh Steelers. They Steelers won 31-24. It really was unbelievable how the Steelers were able to make their come back in the second half. But anything can happen in the playoffs.

The next game was the green Bay Packers against the Atlanta Falcons, the NFL’s second leading team. The result, Green Bay wins 48-21. It was really surprising to see the Packers win, especially when they had to beat one of the top teams in the NFL. Hopefully they can continue their drive to Superbowl 45.

The Seattle Seahawks played against the Chicago Bears this week as well. Another rivalry that was sure to be a good game. But in the end the Bears won 35-24. It was amazing that the Seahawks beat last years champions in last weeks game but its still upsetting to see their streak coming to an end.

The final game this week was one that many will remember, New York Jets vs. the NFL’s leading team, the New England Patriots. In the regular season these two teams met twice, one resulted in the Jets winning 28-14; the second time they met resulted in the Patriots winning 45-3. The lose was so humiliating to the Jets that they had actually hoped to play them again in the playoffs to get them back for their last game together. The result, jets win 28-21.

Stats With the Jets beating the Patriots, the Jets became the only team that has beaten the Colts and the Patriots back-to-back. This week Tom Brady got sacked 5 times. In the game Tom Brady (#12) made his first interception in 330 throws and hasn’t thrown an interception since week 6.

Championship games This week is the final week before the Superbowl. This week will decide who is going and who is not.

NFC round

Green Bay Packers vs. Chicago Bears @ 3:00 on Sunday. They will be playing at Soldier Field in Chicago.

AFC round

New York Jets vs. Pittsburgh Steelers @ 6:30 on Sunday. They will be playing In Pittsburgh.

This week is the divisional part of the playoffs. These are the teams that will be playing this weekend.

Baltimore Ravens vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
(AFC) on Saturday @ 4:30

Green Bay Packers vs. Atlanta Falcons (NFC) on Saturday @ 8:00

New York Jets vs. New England Patriots (AFC) On Sunday @ 4:30

Seattle Seahawks vs. Chicago Bears (NFC) On Sunday @ 1:00

But only four more teams will make it to the championship game and eventually the Superbowl. It should be interesting to see who will make it this year and who won’t, considering last years two Superbowl teams were eliminated last week in the wild-card.
