Schwartz, Shanahan, Frazier Among Coaches to be Fired

As the NFL regular season has come to a close, six head coaches have been fired right off the bat on Monday, while, some, surprisingly still have their job.

For now.

One coach was fired as soon as the regular season ended. First year head coach Rob Chuzinkski of the Cleveland Browns was fired on Sunday night after a 7-game losing streak. Chuzinkski was only with the Browns for one season, and was surprised when he got the news. The first half of the season seemed to go well for him, the Browns were starting to look like a challenge but then things started going downhill in the second half of the season.

Black Monday is never a good day in the NFL, as Detroit Lions’ coach Jim Schwartz learned. After missing the playoffs five years in a row, it was not a shock that Sunday against the Giants was his last game. The Lions are a good team, and they have many good players but they need to have some better guidance. The position for this team is now one of the most wanted spots out of all the other vacancies. This will most likely be filled first.

Mike Shanahan of the Washington Redskins was also fired. A year ago Shanahan lead his team to the playoffs for the first time since 2007. Now he’s looking for a new job, after starting a quarterback who should not have been playing. The Redskins ended with a 3-13 record.

Leslie Frazier of the Minnesota Vikings was fired as well. This was a season full of struggles for the Vikings. Unable to stick with one QB, Frazier was forced to go back and forth with three different quarterbacks throughout the season, none of whom could get the job done. So after 3+ years, Frazier is now out of a job as well.

The last coach fired on Monday was Greg Schiano of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers along with General Manager Mark Dominik. The Bucs finished 4-12 this year, and have not made the playoffs since 2007.

One coach who was fired not this Monday but on Monday December 6th is Gary Kubiak of the Houston Texans. Kubiak didn’t even get to finish out his season after having a mini-stroke, and with the team already having lost 11 games in a row, Texans interim coach Wade Phillips filled in for the remainder of the season. And still didn’t win any games. The Texans ended with the worst NFL record to date at 2-12.

Uncertain Futures:
These Coaches have yet to hear if they are going to be back next year or not:

-Joe Philbin and General Manager of the Miami Dolphins.
-Mike Munchak of the Tennessee Titans.
-Dennis Allen of the Oakland Raiders.

Safe:
And these coaches know for certain that they will come back next year.

-Jason Garrett of the Dallas Cowboys.
-Tom Coughlin of the New York Giants.
-Rex Ryan of the New York Jets.

Once the playoffs are out of the way more interviews will come to light as the search for the right fit will continue.
