Last night the Indiana Fever played against the San Antonio Silver Stars in the Fever’s first game of the 2013 season. Though the start was a little rocky for the Fever, they pulled through and won 79-64.

It was a tough start for the Fever as they struggled to get into a rhythm as three of their best players are out till mid season  The Silver Stars were ahead for the entire first quarter and the quarter ended with the Silver Stars on top 19-14. But soon the Fever got their game together and took the lead 34-30. But with a last second shot, the Silver Stars led at the half 35-34.

After the half the Fever took the lead and pulled apart, and got their biggest lead of the game of 20 points. The Silver Stars continued to give their best throughout the rest of the game but were unable to surpass the Fever again. Tamika Catchings and Shevonte Zellous led the team with contributing 19 points each and the Fever won the game 79-64.

Both teams had to play without some of their regular players. The Silver Stars were without star players Becky Hammon and Sophia Young. And the Fever were without Erin Phillips, Jessica Davenport, and Jeanette Pohlen are out till perhaps midseason due to injuries, and rookie Layashia Clarendon was unable to make it because she is graduating on Saturday the 25th (congratulations to her). But both of the teams played to the best of their ability despite not having some of their key players.

The Fever’s next game will be their home opener on Friday May 31st @ 7:00 pm against the Atlanta Dream.
