How I Started to Learn to Like Baseball

leave a comment »

I was never one for baseball, always found it to be quite boring, then again I didn’t understand it at all. All I knew was that the pitcher threw the ball and if the batter hit it then that was a good thing.

But that started to change when we went to actually go and see a game. I learned that if I was there watching it live it was more fun. The first live game I went to was the Fort Wayne Wizards (who are now the Fort Wayne Tincaps) in 2004 and it was fun and there were fireworks afterwards. And last year we got tickets to go to an Indianapolis Indians game.

I still refused to watch baseball on TV every time my dad would try to get me to watch it with him. I still wasn’t a fan and still found it kind of boring. But when the baseball season started up again I decided to try and at least learn the rules. So I watched a couple minutes of every game my dad had on, and slowly I have learned the basic rules of the game.

Since my dad’s favorite team is the Cincinnati Reds, that is the team I watch the most of and I have learned the names of some of the players and have learned a little bit about their history. I have been to another Indianapolis Indians game this year, and I found it more enjoyable than the one last year, because now I at least know what they have to do and how they win.

I am still not a huge fan of baseball, but I now will at least watch a game with my dad. And I seem to learn something new every time I watch it. And this past Father’s day, we went to Cincinnati and saw the Reds’ stadium and even I found it impressive.

So this is a post written for my dad who taught me about every sport I have written about. Without him I would not be writing about any of this, and wouldn’t care about sports as much as I do now.

Indiana fever vs. Connecticut Sun results

leave a comment »

Last night the Indiana Fever played against the Connecticut Sun, but lost 89-81.

The Sun took the lead early in the game but it wasn’t long until the Fever caught up and tied the score. For the second half of the first quarter the Fever and the Sun were neck and neck. The Fever took back the lead in the second quarter and they were up by six at the end of the half.

Afterwards in the third quarter Tammy Sutton-Brown accidentally knocked her ellbow into Tamika Catchings’ face and caused her to miss some of the game, but she quickly recovered and continued to play by shooting two 3-pointers in a row.

With only three minuets to go the Fever took the lead by one point 79-78 but were not able to keep it as the Sun won 89-81.

This now puts the Fever at 4 wins and 2 losses. The Fever’s next game will be in Washington on June 15th @ 7:00
