Fever Home Opener Preview and Final Roster is…

leave a comment »

On Saturday June 6th the Indiana Fever will host their first home game against the Minnesota Lynx, along with attempting to set a new Guinness World Record for the most people lighting a glow stick at the same time at a single venue.

This will be the Fever’s first season with new head coach Stephanie White after coach Lin Dunn retired the previous year. But White is no stranger to the team workings as she was the Fever’s assistant coach for three years before becoming head coach. When asked about her plans and changes for the upcoming season coach White says that one of the main changes will be the pace at which the game will be played, “Fast paced and quick moving” were two ways used to describe the up coming season and the way that the team would play.

Today, the Fever announced their 12-player roster. Rather than cutting a player, Shavonte Zellous has been placed on the Suspended list while she plays for the Croatian national team from June 11 – 28. When she returns, the team will have to make a hard decision about who they cut at that time. The 12 players for the Fever are:
Tamika Catchings
Erlana Larkins
Layshia Clarendon
Briann January
Briana Butler
Jeanette Pohlen
Natasha Howard
Natalie Achonwa
Marissa Coleman
Maggie Lucas
Shenise Johnson
Lynetta Kizer

The players can rest easy for now and prepare for their first game of the season against the Chicago Sky. With so many good and up-and-coming players, the Fever stand a good chance at making the playoffs again this year.

Football Season Starts, Fever Season Ends.

leave a comment »

Tonight the 2014 NFL football season officially starts up. Kicking off with a game in Seattle against the Seattle Seahawks and the Green Bay Packers.

Last night the Indiana Fever played against the Chicago Sky in game 3 of the Eastern Finals, where the winner would go to the WNBA Finals and the other would go home. Unfortunatley the Fever fell short and lost 75-62. Despite the loss Head Coach Lin Dunn praised her team and stated that she was proud of them.

Indianapolis Colts’ owner Jim Irsay has been finned $500,000 and suspended six games for violating the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy by driving while being intoxicated. Irsay will be on probation and have his license taken away for a year. He will be able to attend on October 9th’s game against the Houstan Texans.

On the bright side, the Colts play against the Denver Broncos in Denver Sunday night for the first Sunday Night Football game of the season!

Colts Training Camp Begins

leave a comment »

This week training camp began at Anderson University for the Indianapolis Colts. Fans cheered as one by one the team arrived and signed autographs.

Reggie Wayne was the player who got the most recognized as he rode up in an Indy Sports car, showing that he was ready and will have even more speed this year.

With only a couple more weeks till the pre-season games start and a month before regular games begin the Colts are looking good with their practices. Andrew Luck is performing very well, and we got a look at some of the amazing touchdowns.

This year will definitely be a year to look forward to, with wide reciever T.Y. Hilton having some experience after fellow wide reciever Reggie Wayne went down with an torn AC, Hilton stepped up and helped to fill the shoes that needed to be filled.

Now with Wayne back and recovered, this Colts team will definitely be a team to be aware of, and now with Luck more comfortable with his team and the playbook, this year should be more exciting and rewarding that the previous years. I am confident that the Colts will go as far or even further than last year.

Tamika Catchings To Return

leave a comment »

Indiana forward Tamika Catchings will return on Saturday against the San Antonia Silver Stars. After missing the season first seventeen games, Indiana star Tamika Catchings will get to play in her first game of the season, after being held out with a lower back injury.

Catchings is the Fever’s five time defensive player, their MVP, and three Olympic gold medalist. Out with a back injury that sent pains down her legs, Catchings is now ready to make her debut with her team.

Catchings has also not played with any of the teams newest players with the exception of practices, now she gets the chance to play and learn from her team, without trying to take control. Coach Lin Dunn, says that she will be keeping a close eye on how Catchings does, and if she sees anything that says that she could get even more hurt, she will not hesitate to pull her out again.

Catchings injury is similar to the one former Fever player Katie Douglas had a couple seasons ago, in which she did not play but nine games the entire season. Hopefully Catchings will make a full recovery and that she will play well in this upcoming game.

Reggie Wayne Expects Medical Clearance At The End Of April

leave a comment »

After almost six months Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne says that he expects to be medically cleared to play at the end of April.

After tearing his ACL in the game against the Denver Broncos, Wayne had surgery back in October of 2013. Now hopeful to be cleared at the end of the month, Wayne would be on schedule for training camp at the end of July.

With Wayne back, quarterback Andrew Luck will have gained back one of his biggest weapons. As a 35 year old veteran, Wayne has been a sense of security for the young quarterback and the newer players that joined the team two years ago, and after Wayne left with his season ending injury the rest of the young players had to step up in order to be able to move on, as we have seen they are more than capable and showed that they can be good and some have the potential of being great even with the absents of some of the starters.

Now with the veteran receiver back for next year, and Luck progressively getting better each season, the upcoming up season looks bright. Adding former New York Giants player Hakeem Nicks into the mix next year could be better than last year. With room for improvement the Colts have the chance to go far this coming up year and I look forward to seeing what they are able to accomplish this off-season.

Divisional Round Schedule and Personal Picks

leave a comment »

Eight teams remain after round one of the playoffs, as four teams were eliminated this week, the winning four will now move on to play against the teams who earned a first round bye in the Divisional Round.

AFC:
The Indianapolis Colts will travel to Boston to play against the second seeded New England Patriots, after beating the Kansas City Chiefs 45-44, on Saturday January 11th 8:15. My picks for this game will have to be the Colts. Throughout the playoffs the Colts have been and will be the underdog. Yes they make mistakes, but they also have to ability to correct them. It will be close, it might look impossible, but I am sticking with the Colts to win.

After beating the Cinncinnati Bengals 27-10, the San Diego Chargers will travel back to Denver to play against the number one seed Broncos, Sunday January 12th at 4:30. My pick for this game would have to be the Broncos due to the fact that they’re coming off a bye week, plus are getting Wes Welker back as well. And they have Peyton Manning, that also helps.

NFC:

After winning their first ever on the road playoff game against the Philidelphia Eagles 26-24, the New Orleans Saints will go to play against the number one seeded Seattle Seahawks Saturday January 11th at 4:35. My pick, Seahawks. The Seahawks are at home, with the loudest crowd in the NFL, (formerly held by Saints fans) and despite the fact that the Saints won a playoff road game once, I’m not holding my breath for two in a row.

And lastly the 49ers will advance after beating the Green Bay Packers for the third time in a row, 23-20. They will travel to play a rematch game against the second seeded Carolina Panthers, Sunday January 12th at 1.00. Pick, 49ers. Carolina is good, but at the moment they are not as good as the 49ers. When they beat the 49ers earlier this season, they were beating a team not at their best. The 49ers are at their best.

Colts beat Chiefs in Wild Card Round

leave a comment »

This week the Indianapolis Colts played against the Kansas City Chiefs at home to start off the Wild Card weekend. With a full house, Colts fans were ready for a second win over the Chiefs, and the first win of the playoffs.

The game started out with both teams scoring on opening drives. But for Kansas it seemed like it was going to be a long game as star running back Jamaal Charles was taken out of the game early on with a concussion. He would not return for the rest of the game.

But the Chiefs were not detered and went on ahead and outscore the Colts 31-10 at halftime. The start of the second half did not go very well for the Colts as the first pass from Andrew Luck ended up as an interception which led to a Chiefs Touch Down 38-10 By now everyone was starting to doubt the Colts, thinking the game is over. But the Colts rally back and get a TD of their own followed by a Robert Mathis signature strip/sack recovered by Indy.

With the Colts down 38-24 the Chiefs get a field goal of their own after an T.Y. Hilton could not hold onto the ball and another interception was caused. But the Colts come right back and score again, and trail by ten.

One of the most memorable plays of the entire game was when Luck passed the ball off to Donald Brown for a TD, but Brown fumbled the ball. Luck then picked up the ball and dove for the TD. After a field goal from the Chiefs the Colts take the lead for the first time in the game with a Hilton TD. 45-44.

Now all the Colts had to do was hold off the Chiefs for a little over 4 minutes. After a failed 4th down the Colts finish the game in a victory formation, and win 45-44. This marks the NFL’s second largest comeback. Ever. The first made by, guess who, Peyton Manning.

After the Cincinnati Bengals lost at home to the San Diego Chargers the Colts will now travel to play against the New England Patriots for the first time since the 2012 regular season. This game will be on Saturday January 11th at 8:15 pm.
